What Can Weston Do (WCWD)

Started by two friends, Don Pierson (Weston resident and active long time supporter) and La Toya Rivers (Boston resident, METCO Director and METCO Alum) in the Spring of 2020 following a conversation about a student organized and led BLM March in Weston. The group is made up of Weston Community Members, Weston METCO/Boston Resident Community Members, Weston Public School Parents, Staff and Students committed to raising awareness and educating the community to support racial justice. Through the work of its various sub-committees we aim to create anti-racists initiatives, events and recommendations to the school system and broader Weston Community that will help to both recognize and combat institutional racism in Weston. In the vein of complete respect for the monumental task at hand we aim to be thoughtful and intentional in every aspect of our committee. Recognizing we must first start with a base of well-informed AND well-intentioned members we have prioritized equity and diversity in the makeup of the committees and the leadership of the sub-committees. We have also recognized and work to ensure that all of our actions first involve a solid foundation that is built to last and does no harm.
