Families Exploring Equity and Diversity
In partnership with Boston Bridges Initiative, the book club Families Exploring Equity and Diversity (F.E.E.D.) in Manchester and Essex was founded in 2020 by Lindsay Banks and Carol Bender, the youth services librarian at the Manchester Public Library. Its creation came from a desire to fill the curriculum gap for young children to learn about race and other social justice issues. We use children's books to spark a discussion and engage in hands-on activities with children ages 4-8 and their families. Guided by the latest research, our goals are to spark critical thinking using accurate information, create honest and brave spaces, reduce our biases, expand our sense of community, and take action for a more just society.
